Navneet Launches Book to Detect Colour Blindness Early

Navneet Education, India's largest and most trusted schoolbook publisher, has introduced a pioneering new initiative to solve a commonly neglected learning issue—Colour Vision Deficiency (CVD), also referred to as colour blindness. The initiative has been developed by FCB Group India and designed in close collaboration with ophthalmological specialists and educators. Navneet Education and FCB Group India have collaborated since 2022 to introduce meaningful innovation in education—developing meaningful ideas based on empathy and insight.

The firm has created an early learning book not only to instruct—but to diagnose. The Colour Blindness Detection Book incorporates Ishihara-style colour vision tests into pictures in a subtle way, allowing teachers and parents to spot possible colour vision deficiencies in children at the formative years of schooling.

"There are about 10 million children in India suffering from colour vision deficiency," declared Dr Malgi, a senior ophthalmologist connected with the initiative. "A majority of them remain undiagnosed for years as the condition doesn't visibly hinder learning. However, in fact, it impairs confidence, involvement, and overall academic performance."

During early years, in colours-integrated subjects like mathematics, science, geography, and art, colour-blind children mostly experience confusion and embarrassment. A large number are labeled as being inattentive or learning slowly when they actually cannot see particular colours. Detection at the initial stage allows students to obtain proper assistance with the help of guidance and other learning methods.

"It's not often you see a design solution that looks so organic and essential," added Rakesh Menon, chief creative officer, FCB Interface. "By incorporating it into the first books kids learn from, we can catch the issue early and give the necessary help."

The fact that we as a publisher influence the minds of millions made us feel that it's our job to make early learning more inclusive," said Devish Gala, director of branding, marketing and sales at Navneet Education. "By integrating colour vision tests into the books kids are already learning from, we ensure that no kid gets left behind.

This step by Navneet Education represents a watershed moment in how India tackles hidden learning barriers through design thinking, educational innovation, and compassion to serve all learners.
